These thoughts have been sleeping in my journal since I hiked The Camino De Santiago Trail. The Camino held small life lessons along the way. I wrote down the things I learned in a small journal. I was a pilgrim on the trail. A pilgrim is someone who is traveling for religious reasons. I really had 2 intentions during my time on the trail; to die to myself daily and live for others and to rid myself of things and find contentment. In Philippians 4, Paul reveals that he has discovered the secret of life, "I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do all this through Him who gives me strength." 1. The journey will be in vain if you don't stop and smell the roses and meet the people around you. 2. Less is more. 3. Ask for help. 4. Helping others is a symbiotic relationship. 5. Suffering is worth it. 6. When you think you can't go on, you can go 2 more miles. 7. Never give up, never surrender. 8. Give people the benefit of the doubt. 9. Goals are important and necessary. 10. No pain, no gain. 11. Finish a task sooner rather than later. 12. It's about the way, not the destination. 13. Encourage each other. 14. Use every moment to glorify God. 15. With leadership comes responsibility and humility. 16. Everyone has a story. 17. You can still love those who have a different world view than you...even atheists. 18. Respect all cultures. 19. You can start a friendship with someone just by saying Hello! 20. Sometimes you have to open up for others to open up to you. 21. Don't be afraid of what others may think. 22. The things that are worth it take hard work. 23. Do nice things for others. 24. Never backtrack. 25. Enjoy simplicity. 26. You don't need all the things society tells you you need. 27. A positive attitude will take you further in life. 28. Live in the moment. 29. Be slow to anger. 30. Truly listen to others. 31. Be ALL there. 32. Share all that you can. 33. Siesta is a good idea, but really stinks. 34. Be open minded. 35. Enjoy nature that surrounds you. 36. Laughter transcends all language barriers. 37. Everyone has strengths and weaknesses. 38. It is important to learn other languages. 39. Be thankful for what you have. 40. We are all made differently for reasons that glorify God. 41. Pray without ceasing. 42. The Lord will supply you with the strength you need. 43. Be welcoming and accepting to everyone, or you could miss an opportunity to tell someone about The Lord. 44. God NEVER gives you anything that you cannot handle. 45. Continue to have faith when you feel you can longer go on. 46. A smile can make a world of difference. 47. At the end of the day all I needed was a good shower and a clean pair of socks. 48. If you feel like you should do something, just do it. 49. Take care of your body; work out, eat healthy. 50. To die is to gain. God let me have some time to think about this truth. Death is a lie, eternity awaits. Help build the Kingdom of God, which lasts forever. Kylie and Jared met in Mellers with mutual friends. They started dating June 29th, 2013. They are getting married on December 28th, 2014. I wanted to ask them some questions about their relationship, and see how God has been transforming them into one flesh. I was SO surprised; I had no idea when I woke up this morning that by the end of the day I would be someone's future wife. This commitment is the happiest and scariest moment. Just as it is the crown, and not merely the will to rule, that makes the king, so it is marriage, and not merely your love for each other, that joins you together in the sight of God and man.”
In just one simple word I am not just saying "yes" to him, I am saying yes to his family, to oneness, to his sinfulness, his burdens, his job, his leadership, and his schooling. I am saying yes to give my whole self to another human being. I am saying yes to be an example to other women. I am saying yes to a holy commitment in light of the very pessimistic perspective the world. But I side with John Piper when he says, "The wonder of marriage is woven into the wonder of the gospel of the cross of Christ, and the message of the cross is foolishness to the natural man, and so the meaning of marriage is foolishness to the natural man." I am unbelievably happy. I am so undeserving of such a handsome, smart, God-loving young man. God is good. Here's the order of events: 1. Get to Devil's Den 2. Hike 1.5 miles to the top of the Yellow Rock Trail 3. Eat snacks-Kyla is not suspecting anything 4. All the people leave and he takes me over to the flat part of the rock. 5. He hands me a scrapbook and says, "I got you a present." -Kyla still has no idea what is going on. 6. I start looking at all these photos of us from way back and cute notes he has written under them. 7. The last page has my name and my last name is crossed out. 8. I look at Lucas and he is down on one knee. 9. He professes his love to me. 10. He pulls out the ring and asks, "Will you marry me?" 11. I still am so confused and just looking at the ring and back at Lucas, then back at the ring. 12. Lucas probes, "Soo..Will you?" 13. I say, "Yes!" 14. We hike back down with sweet talks about our future. <3 |

I long to be a lamb, able to lay down my own selfish desires and wholeheartedly follow Christ. Dietrich Bonhoeffer said when Christ calls a man, he bids him come and die.
